(from Christmas) I heard u can plant them outside....I just don't want to kill it.
Does anyone know any tips on planting a poinsettia outside?
Plant it where it won't have too much direct sunlight, and keep it watered, but not over watered. Miracle Grow works great. My older sister planted one about 4 years ago, and it is huge and healthy. We live in Phx. Az., and if will grow and be that healthy here, it should work about anyplace. Good luck, I think you will be pleased.
Reply:go to the plant/garden area in here-some guy knows it all with them! very good tips too! mine die-

Can a cat die if it eats a poinsettia?
Agree with above replies.
Yes, pointsettas and lots of other indoor plants are highly poisonous to any animals,... please see vet if concerned.
Doesn't take a whole lot to be toxic to cat's system.
Hope all's ok.

yes they are poisonous, see a vet,i lost a very large rabbit a few years ago cos it ate mistletoe
Reply:Yes it can. If this happened to your cat, get it to a vet quick. If its late where you are, look up a 24 hour vet and go.
Reply:not sure. i have a dog and she is going to heaven but God told me she could still get out on the road.
Reply:The white poinsettia does not seem to be poisonous as my cat ate a few leaves last week, he's still around.
Reply:Yes they can.

I am trying to paint a green door poinsettia, what are the steps in doing so?
The door is the color green in the Mexico state flag

You should buy a can of primer, it is white. Then it is will be much easier to cover it with the red paint and it will be red, not purple.
Reply:Use a primer coat first to give the red paint a good base. This will make the paint go on easier and it keeps it from blending in with the paint already on the door.
I was watching Curb Appeal on HGTV last weekend. They recommended that you should paint a front door with a small roller instead of a brush. The brush will leave stroke marks. The small roller will be able to get in any nooks and crannies and the paint will go on smoother.

What is the proper care of a poinsettia?
You have to consider where these plants are native fauna. You find them in hot, Mediterranean-type climate countries. So they need a LOT of light (indirect if possible), they don't like cold, they like an occasional misting of water, don't water them until they get dry(ish) and then stand them in water until they soak up what they need, then remove them - never leave them standing in water. Under/over-watering results in browning leaves and over-watering results in leaf drop (they think it's winter). They don't like drafts, they don't like cold, they don't like wind, they don't really like being moved so protect them when you have to move them. If you are keeping yours longterm, fertilize after blooming.

Poinsettias need a lot of light. The more sun you can give them the better. When they are not in enough light the lower leaves fall off and you are left with nothing but colored bracts on tall stems. Water when the top few inches of soil are dry. If the plant is in a foil or paper pot cover you need to empty the excess water out of it after you water. They do not like to be very soggy. If you can keep it alive until next fall and want it to flower again, it needs to recieve at least 12 hours of uninterupted darkness (complete darkness) every night for 6-8 weeks.
Reply:Mine went in the trash last weekend. I could only keep them going when we lived in California. They need lots of light. In the Northwest, there just is not enough.
Reply:Throw it out and buy a new one in December.

What causes black bugs on soil of poinsettia?
Odds are they a fungus gnats
Gnatrol oe 1 tbsp of cheap dishsoap in a gal of water, used everytime you water for about a month
What causes black bugs on soil of poinsettia?
They are usually the result of over-watering, thereby root death and decay is what they are feeding/breeding on.

Can someone please help me save my poinsettia plant.?
I brought it before last Christmas and it gave a wonderful show.
Then in May I planted it in the garden and it thrived. I was told to bring it into the conservatory in a large pot to over winter as the frost would kill it. This I have done but my beauty has now wilted and looks like it is dying what could I do to save it.
Can someone please help me save my poinsettia plant.?
Ok I had the exact same problem. I very very gently repotted my plant a second time in fresh nutrient rich compost, and brougth it indoors. I used a really good compost and gave it probably twice the normal plant food at the roots when I was repotting. I actually brought it right into my kitchen which is quite warm and watered it whenever the compost looked a bit sorry for it's self. It lasted me almost a year and I never took it back out side.
Good luck, they're such nice plants for christmas!
Reply:unless it as sentimental value replace it ,
Reply:I'm with Andrew on this. This type of plant should be viewed like a bunch of flowers, beautiful when looking fresh and smart and time to bin when it starts to fade.
It's really not worth the effort of trying to revive it.
Well done on keeping it for a year though.
Reply:Congratulations on being able to keep your poinsettia as long as you have. I've had hundreds of these plants and they are absolutley beautiful at christmas but I can't even get mine to last until christmas so I've completely stopped trying. They are notoriously difficult and are more suited to a warm climate. I think I would accept defeat and treat yourself to a new one - you did well to get this far with it.
Reply:Buy a new one. They don't like draughts, and they don't like the English weather.
